Before completing an application for Saturday Sweets funding, please consider the following:
- Why is the project important for Bronzeville and its residents?
- How will the funding be used to support the project?
- What is the approximate project timeline?
- If you win, how will you present your progress at the subsequent Saturday Sweets grant distribution event?
- What other resources are needed to accomplish the project?
Please keep in mind the small scope of such funding when writing your proposal. The best proposals will be for small-scale, short-timeline, and targeted projects focused on a specific issue or idea. Project proposals are more likely to receive funding if the Saturday Sweets guests can envision an end product.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please read and carefully follow the instructions below. Any deviation from the described format will possibly delay or disqualify your application.
STEP 1: Complete our application.
Please complete and submit your proposal online using our Google Docs application form. Word counts will be strictly enforced. We cannot accept hard copies of project proposals.
STEP 2: Gather and submit relevant images.
We request that you submit 2-4 images related to your project or past projects that illustrate your proposal (examples: sketches, maps, diagrams). Also, please submit an accompanying Microsoft Word .DOC file with a numbered list of one-sentence descriptions for each of these images. Do not embed images into your Word file. Your images and project summary will be displayed on an 11X17 poster during the Saturday Sweets grant distribution event.
Your images should be delivered as .JPEG files, up to 1 megabyte each, at 1280 x 960 px and 150ppi (maximum). The file name of each image should contain the first and last name of the project leader and should be numbered (e.g., JanePublic_01.jpeg). We cannot accept hard copies of images.
If not applicable to your project, include a description of how you would visually present your proposed project at the Saturday Sweets grant distribution event.
STEP 3: Email your project images and image description list to us.
Please include the following information in the subject line of your email: “Saturday Sweets Application: Project Name”
STEP 4: Wait for a decision regarding your application.
We’ll inform you within 7 days of submitting the application if your proposal has been selected for voting at the Saturday Sweets grant distribution event.
Due to the number of applications received, we will not be able to include every proposal. Proposals will be evaluated on the following terms:
- Creative Innovation
- Community Impact and Relevance
- Feasibility
The Revival Arts Collective will typically “short-list” about 3-5 proposals for presentation and voting at the Saturday Sweets grant distribution event based on the strength of the initial application.
STEP 5: If your proposal is selected, present at the Saturday Sweets grant distribution event.
If your proposal is accepted, you will be asked to attend the Saturday Sweets grant distribution event and prepare a short oral/visual presentation (5 minutes maximum). This helps Saturday Sweets guests learn more about your ideas, and make a more informed decision.
After presentations from each of the short-listed applicants, Saturday Sweets guests will rank the short-list of proposals, and the top vote-getter will receive a check in the amount of the funds collected that evening. Please note that Saturday Sweets grants are small in scope, and will typically range from $350-$500.
All presenters and their guests are asked to pay for dessert at the grant distribution event, however that money will be included in the collective pot that funds the winning proposal.
For presentation set-up, we ask that you arrive 30 minutes prior to the Saturday Sweets event start time. Please coordinate this set-up with our artist support crew by emailing us.
STEP 6: If your proposal is awarded funding, present at the subsequent Saturday Sweets grant distribution event.
We want to learn more about the progress, outcomes, and impact of your project, so we require all awardees to present at the subsequent Saturday Sweets grant distribution event (typically 2 months later).
